Ideal for assemblies or multiple groups, Kalee will read Miss MacDonald Has a Farm and discuss the themes in the book. These include parts of the plant and types of vegetables we eat with audience participation with an interactive felt board. And of course, there will be plenty of time for Q&A and book signing. This program is best suited for elementary schools and customizable.

Writing

Twisting A Classic

This creative writing class will study picture books that have taken a classic story and twisted it into something new. We will dive deep into multiple examples to study how to do it. Then with writing prompts and a special worksheet, we will work in the moment to try out our own ideas. This practice can be used for any creative writing genre. This class can be modified for any age, but probably best suited for 6th grade to adults.

Girl Reading a Book

Find the Refrain

Picture books are meant to be read aloud and a refrain can be an earworm inviting readers to want to read it again and again. In this workshop, we will study multiple picture book examples, diving down deep to the word level to examine why they are effective. Then there will be guided time to brainstorm and work on a refrain to incorporate into your current WIP.  As time allows, there will be opportunities for sharing and feedback.
